About

Mean Calculator is a free toolkit of statistics calculators built on one principle: a calculator should show its working. Every tool on this site returns its result together with the step-by-step solution — the sum and the count, the sorted list with the middle marked, the frequency tally, the deviation table — so you can check the answer, copy the method into your homework, or learn how the statistic actually works.

What is here

How our calculators work

Every calculation happens in your browser, on your device. Your numbers are never sent to a server, stored, or shared — there is no account, no upload, and nothing to leak. The methods are the standard textbook ones, stated on each page: the arithmetic mean is Σx ÷ n; quartiles use the median-of-halves method; outliers follow Tukey's 1.5 × IQR fence rule; sample standard deviation divides by n − 1 (Bessel's correction). Where a method has variants — quartiles are the famous case — the page says which convention it uses and shows the working so you can follow or adjust it.

Who writes this site

The site is written and maintained by the Mean Calculator team — people who build statistics tools and write the guides behind them. Content is checked against standard references (introductory statistics textbooks and the documentation of the methods themselves) and against the site's own calculators before publication. Found an error? We want to know: contact us and we will fix it and note the correction.

Our sister site

Descriptive statistics ends where standardization begins. For z-scores — turning a value into "how many standard deviations from the mean" — our sister site, CalculateZScore, applies the same show-your-working approach to the next step.
